Berwin & Berwin launch new website

Berwin & Berwin stitches 18,000 quality men's suits a week.

As a European market leader of men's tailored garments, supplying own-label suits to Austin Reed, John Lewis, Moss Bros. and Pierre Cardin, this family firm came to Chapter Eight looking for a bespoke website.

Established in Leeds in 1885, the company’s founder Barnett Berwin, came from Russia and started up what was to become one of the UK’s most respected men’s tailors. The Berwin name reaches far across the globe – the company, once famous for producing quality uniforms for US army officers, has long been a leading producer of own-label suits for prestigious retailers.

Berwin & Berwin is known as a leading brand in its own right, but other notable brands Paul Costelloe, Ben Sherman, Daniel Hechter and Chester, By Chester Barrie are also part of the company’s portfolio. With manufacturing bases in both Hungary and China, the fifth generation of the Berwin family elected to develop a new website to reflect its international reach.

A Market Leader's Brochure

Berwin & Berwin asked Chapter Eight for a website that could strengthen its position as a European market leader. With a brand new, state-of-the-art manufacturing base in Longkou City, China and with three factories in Hungary (all ready to supply own-label suits to the likes of Austin Reed and John Lewis) much was riding on the new website design. The feel of the new web design had to reflect the company’s traditional roots, its provenance as a leading British tailor, the efficiency of its production bases and its appeal as an own-label supplier.

The requirement was not to sell suits on-line, but to confirm the company’s manufacturing expertise. This was to be a brochure website, but the on-line equivalent of a print brochure produced on quality paper, with varnished photos and great design!
